About Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle
Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is a regional social health and planning organization serving Barrie, ON and the surrounding regions of Simcoe County, Muskoka, and northern York Region. Since 1989, BANAC has functioned as a catalyst for Indigenous community development, offering comprehensive services and consultation across multiple critical areas. The organization specializes in child care services through its Biinoojinsauk Childcare Centre, health planning initiatives, social development programs, and dedicated support services for seniors and families. BANAC operates as an incubator of ideas, working in cooperation with Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners to address community needs through coordinated regional efforts. The organization provides cross-cultural awareness training designed to build knowledge and competency among service providers and community members. BANAC's service delivery model incorporates the Anishinaabe language, wisdom, and knowledge into all programming, ensuring culturally safe and appropriate care. Additional offerings include the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin program, Indigenous patient navigator services, and the Aging at Home initiative with specialized support across multiple regions. Through consultation and community development support, BANAC continues to advance the aspirations and well-being of Indigenous peoples throughout its service area, promoting the concept of Mino-Bimaadziwin—the good life—as a guiding principle for all initiatives.
